MUSIC MINISTRY… MAKING A JOYFUL NOISE
Learning to worship God is one key to a victorious Christian life. Leading others to do the same is also a great blessing. Involvement in the Music Ministry gives you the opportunity to do both. Regardless of your age or musical background, the Music Ministry has something to offer you.
Vocal Music
Children through adults have the opportunity to lift their voices in song through Oakland’s Music Ministry. The Oakland music program has flourished because we begin teaching children the basics of music theory and the joy of praising the Lord in our Children’s Choirs beginning at the age of four. We then build on that foundation through Students, Senior Adults, and the Sanctuary Choir.
Instrumental Music
In the Psalms we are admonished to praise the Lord with, “the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals” (Psalm 150:3-5). Through Oakland’s Instrumental Music program you can learn to play an instrument or improve your skills while you receive a blessing from using your gifts and talents to praise and worship the Lord.
Children
Children age (4) through 6th grade have fun while learning more about music and how it can be used for God’s glory through children’s choir. Our goal is to teach children to serve the Lord with singing, to know He is God through his Word and His Mighty Names, and to praise Him with a heart of thanksgiving. Children’s choir begins in the fall and continues throughout the school year. During the summer months, children participate in selected musical activities as well as general activities geared for their age group.

Special Events
Each year Oakland presents several musical productions that are anointed by God for His glory and honor. Many are saved through the performances of these productions and we thank Him for the opportunity we have at Oakland to be a part of His work in our church and our community. These programs feature a 40-plus member orchestra and a 100-plus choir, combining almost every musical age group of our church. Members participate in our annual Easter passion play, which is a compelling story of God’s love, and sacrifice for us on the cross. Through powerful scenes brought to life with music and drama, you will consider the significance of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Your life will undoubtedly be changed as you are reminded of God’s amazing grace. Our Christmas program reminds us that it is the love of God that sent Jesus to Bethlehem that very first Christmas. Other musicals help us experience the grace, love, and forgiveness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
